« Nutrivant Plus » application on Sugar beet
Sugar beet is one of the profitable cultures and has high value for farms economy. On separate data the profitability of production can reach 60 and even 90 % and not less than 10 %.
In order to provide sugar manufacturers with cheap and high quality raw material, sugar beet growers should produce yields not below 50-70 t/ha. To reach such level of productivity is possible only by using highly effective energy saving technologies of sugar beet cultivation.
Foliar application with “Nutrivant Plus” is an integral part of modern mineral nutrition technology.
Foliar nutrition with “Nutrivant Plus Sugar beet” provides:
- Increase of productivity of sugar beet roots by 8-20 t/hectare and sugar content by 0,5-3 %;
- Improvement of consumption of nutritive elements by crops root system from fertilizers and ground;
- Stimulation of biochemical processes and stability/resistance of plants to fungi and virus diseases;
- Elimination of stress especially at pesticides application;
- High efficiency rate of applied standard fertilizers.
Sugar beet has a significant fall out of phosphorus and potassium when harvested, it is sensitive to deficiency of magnesium, manganese and boron. So at productivity 40 - 60 tons per hectare the fall out is: 75 kg of magnesium, 800 g manganese and 400 - 600 g of boron. The critical periods of sugar beet for boron are 4-6 and 8-10 leaves phases. Boron provides accumulation of Sugars and prevents root disease. By influencing calcium balance in the plant, boron increases protection of sugar beet roots against root decay. Calcium is the main defender against this disease in sugar beet. The critical manganese period for the crops is 8-12 leaves phase.
During the 4-6 leaves phase, there is secondary cambial rings formation of the sugar beet roots, and the potential of the future productivity is formed. In secondary cambial rings two kinds of cells are formed – large wood cells of xylem, which transports from the soil trough the leaves water and dissolved nutrients, and lobe cells - thin-walled cells of phloem that achieve the carrying of sugar and other products of photosynthesis from leaves into the roots.
Between rings vessels are located the parenchyma cells - a place of sucrose accumulation. The quantity and thickness of these rings defines the size of the future yield. Deficiency of humidity or nutritive elements detains the growth cambial rings, which leads to less productivity. To change the potential of generated cambial rings by means of agro-technical methods even under favorable conditions is practically impossible.
Implementation of foliar application with complex fertilizer “Nutrivant Plus” was offered by American scientists X. Brain and W. Elsvorth (university of Idaho) as an alternative to soil application of fertilizers. Application of foliar nutrition with “Nutrivant Plus” has appeared equivalent to deep local application, and has equally increased yield and quality of sugar beet roots without loss of sugar content or increase of salts concentration which hampers sugar output. As a result was received an increase of 1000 kg of sugar per 1 hectare.

In Russia 2006-2007 results of “Nutrivant Plus” applications have been recorded in the “North- Caucasus scientific research institute of sugar beet and sugar”.
In dependence on different climatic and soil conditions two variants of field trials have showed very good results of quantity and quality in sugar beet. The first variant with two applications in dosage (3+3) kg/ha performed 60 and 30 days before harvesting. The second variant of foliar application was applied in three steps (2+2+2) kg/ha 60,45 and 30 days before harvesting.
Since 2006 both in Russia and in Ukraine fertilizer tests of “Nutrivant Plus” have been performed in many farms in different regions of the countries. The results everywhere are constant – foliar application with “Nutrivant Plus” has led to substantial growth of productivity and sugar content. Thus, yield increase reached 20 t/ha, and sugar content in separate tests increased up to 3,7%. The average of yield increase is 8 t/ha, and sugar content of 1,5%. This finally allowed to receive in average extra 1,2 tons of sugar per hectare. “Nutrivant Plus” application on sugar beet, as well as on other crops, has strongly pronounced bio stimulating effect, prevents progress of many dangerous fungi diseases, among which are peronospora and cercospora.

Two years of “Nutrivant Plus” application has led to stable yield and sugar content increase, even in the last year conditions of severe drought. Typically is also the absence of root decay and other diseases.

Trial field in Ukraine, Kyiv.
Trial field in Belarus, Minsk region.
“Nutrivant Plus Sugar Beet” has been applied twice in phases: firs in covering leafs in a row (4,5 kg/ha), second in covering leafs in a row-spacing (4 kg/ha). The average increase in yield of sugar beet fixed 4,6 t/ha.
Today scientists and experts recommend to make two or three applications of “Nutrivant Plus Sugar Beet”. The first foliar application is performed in the beginning 4-th leaf formation phase until the beginning 6-th leaf formation. “Nutrivant Plus” application can be combined with herbicides application, in order to reduce stress influence. The second application is recommended to be made from the beginning of 8 leaves phase and up to 50 % leaves coverage. The third application is recommended to be made in the beginning of 50 % leaves coverage phase.
